Actually, I use the term 'caught it on a fly rod' much more comfortably that 'caught while fly fishing' when saltwater fishing, as I don't tend to think of giant 12" streamers as 'true' flies, but as streamers, even if hand tied. So a fine line from a 'purist's' standpoint may be used to differentiate the two and I would go along with that. If I imitated a flying fish, though, would that qualify as a 'fly', since they do? Eh?
