Del,
Let me start by saying I love my 3wt and use it all the time for trout in the 12" range and slightly larger (largest on my 3wt was 22").
I use it on small streams and some larger ones too and it performs great. And believe me we have some bushy streams in these parts.
I have thrown size 10 streamers with it and done ok but if there weighted it tends to be a bit much.

Hope this helps

Subject: [VFB] 3wt rod

As some of you may know I have been thinking about getting a 3wt rod set.
I have just one more set of questions to ask before I purchase one.
     1) Will a 3wt be sufficient for large (hand sized) brim and small (12 inch) trout?
     2) How well would it perform in small streams and bushy creeks?
     3) Can I use the same leaders I make for my 5wt? Will I get the same turnover?
     4) What is the largest fly (within reason) that can be tossed on a 3wt?
     5) Is there anything else I should know before I go and spend $300.00 on a good rod set? I would hate to get on and then not ever use it.

Thank you for any info you can give me. Your a great bunch of people and I value your opinions and comments.
                                                 Regards,
