Start with swaps that have only a small number required.  I learned many things from these swaps and sent/received many a fly with "imperfections".  Then ask others in the swap to offer suggestions to improve your tying.  DonO, Tony Spezio, Byard, Hans and many others are great tyers.  You could also tie a pattern and send it to one of them for critique.  Don't worry, they will keep it private.  Things like proportions, thread wraps, dubbing, where you placed a material on the hook (especially where it started and positioning) are important.  Read more books, rent some videos and read the vfb list and be patient.  It takes time to learn an art or craft.
