Morning Folks,
I have a Rod Building question for the group. Amanda and I are both in
need of some "Short" fly rods. We have a small stream not to far from here
that a friend of mine recently discovered and it is full of crappie, bass,
blue gill and catfish. Thing is there are numerous trees and such that make
it necessary for short rods verses 8'+ rods we are accustomed to.
I have a 6'6" spinning rod that I am looking at stripping and converting
to a fly rod and am looking for some more to do the same with. Now for the
questions, 1, what is the best way to remove the existing handle without
distroying the reel seat and rod ? 2, how do I space the guilds, from the
butt or from the tip ? What are the standard spacing for the guilds ? And
finaely, how do we determin what weight fly line to use on them when they
are done, trial and error ?
We will also need to locate some handle material and the other nessisary
items, ( Guilds, thread, reel seats etc.) so if anyone has a supply or parts
they would like to sell or swap for please let us know. Or if you have any
rebuildable short rods.
We are excited about fishing this place because it is very little known
and the folks that usually show up to fish it are bait chunkers and hesitant
to brave the brush and thickets to get back to some of the really nice water
and fish. If anyone can help us out on setting up some short rods it would
be greatly appriciated.
Jimi and Amanda
