Actually, Joyce, what I discovered is a very simple little method.  Tape the
mylar with scotch tape. . .THEN cut it.  That prevents both ends from
unraveling.  The scotch tape has just enough give in it to allow it to slip
over the eye of the hook.  Once it is in place, a good tug will dislodge the
tape with little or no damage to the mylar.
    Haven't gotten up the courage to try torching the mylar, yet.
