In the reading I have done the spline seems to be important to all the folks
that have written on it inthe the years past.
Guide placement in relationship to the spline may be important. It may not be. I don't have enough experience to really know.
I do know, though, that if it is important, placing the guides on the right side of the rod will ensure the best rod possible. It it isn't important, then placing them there sure won't hurt anything!
