Iain,
I also take mine camping. There is a "Magic" of setting there with minimal
light, thinking of the fish that day and tying a couple to see if you can
improve on them tomorrow. It is just a thing with me. Also, when the tree
people eat my last one it is good to be able to make another by the campfire
while lunch is being made.
Now you have me reminiscing...

I agree with you Iain.  I ties on my flies, and I takes my chances.
But if we're camping, I'll have my "portable" tying kit along to use
at the campsite.

Years ago I used to take a portable ham radio station (NI9V) when we
camped. Fly fishing and fly tying has pushed that hobby way back.
"Not enough days in an hour."  Before anyone comments, I wrote that last
just how I meant it.
