Bill, Take a look at Dave Hughes' book "Trout Flies - The Tier's Reference". Dave's writing always strikes me as very clear and relaxed, it's a pleasure to just sit and read. This book is helpful, connecting design theory and tying practice together with good illustrations.
The FFF Pattern Encyclopedia is a great collection of photos but it falls a bit short since it completely lacks commentary on the patterns. Nothing really takes the place of a nice photographic sequence to help with skills improvement. The Leeson book is also excellent but I probably won't get it because the bright blue background used in all the photos makes subtle colors in the fly difficult to see. I don't have $100 to spend but $50 sound more like it. Any idea's? __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable.
