If you twist the CDC into a rope dubbing, don't you loose the inherent
floatability of the CDC feather?
I thought the area of the fibers causes low surface tension and that's what
keeps it afloat?

Allan, tye it in by the tip leaving a bit hang for the tail.  Give the
stem a few twists to form a rope.  Make an excellent emerger.
