With the Pontoon boats you have less body in the water and more hydrodynamic (is that a word?) hence less to drag through the water. This is great news for covering more water. The bad news (possibly) is how little is below the water line. Pontoon boat versus belly boat (round tube type or horse shoe shaped) is akin to a sail boat with the main sail up or down. On calm water with little wind I can comfortably relax and fish most water. With wind I tend to spend a lot of time and energy trying to stay put. Of course you can use and anchor, but then you are more stuck to fishing one area at a time. The added plus with the pontoon style are those with oars, you sure can cover a lot more area quickly with oars but they do have a learning curve. When floating a river, like the lower Sac, I tend to use the oars most of the time but still keep my flippers on in case I need a small quick adjustment in course. I’ve had mine in the ocean once before and it did handle it just fine, although after having first a leopard shark swim between my fins, then a inquisitive sea lion sniffing my knees (darn big teeth), then a huge (I swore it was 5 feet tall) sea otter silently stalking me… I did not do as well as the boat did. I must have had huge leaks in my waders as they were real wet on the inside after all that…….

Can you move faster in the pontoon than a float tube, thereby covering more water. Would this work well in large reserviors and/or saltwater bays and estuaries.
