Ken,
I use shooting heads exclusivly for saltwater. I generally get 1 or 2 weight sizes up and cut it down to where it casts comfortably, usually take 2 or 3 feet off. I use Cortland braided mono as my running line; mainly because it doesn't tangle. The idea behind this system is to get distance, the head is the weight and the running line is thin to shoot thru the guides with less friction. The Amnesia does shoot farther because it is thinner but you have to stretch it before use or it will tangle. I found it to have some memory, it isn't totally amnesiatic. I'd rather give up a little distance to not have to hassle with tangles. When using this system use a stripping basket. The line coming out of the basket casts smoother than coming off the water or the ground. For more info on Shooting heads go to Dan Blanton. Great site and Dan is on the Bulliten Board periodically, he is the Guru of shooting heads.
Good luck,
Jeff C.
