I use a po' man's shooting head. When a weight forward line starts to crack I just cut it back to the running line and attach a length (about 10 feet) of leaded line and a short leader. Great for dredging the depths of still waters, and it casts a lot (dare I say it?) like spinning gear, just one back cast and a load and it is on its way. But it still feels like a fly line and fly fishing, which suits me fine.

Is this a floating or sinking rig? I've not tried the Rio Powerflex running line, but it sounds like you are impressed.
