What you are looking for is cortlands LC13. Put a loop on each end and add it to the segment of of your leader just before the tippit. I use them from 3 to 24 inches. Changes your casting some, I tilt the rod a little off vertical. A slow or medium action rod works best.

I read recently, and I don't know where (I apologize to the author), about a neat way of sinking a leader without split shots, mud or whatever. I haven't tried it yet, because the water is mainly frozen, and the drifts are too damn deep for this gimp to get over or through. You use lead core trolling line. Cut it into various lengths, from 6inches to whatever, and whip loops on both ends. Loop connect it to the leader on one end and the tippet on the other.
This kind of weight will not tangle or hang up on underwater stuff.
I hope to try it soon, but just heard that there is a possibility of three more days of snow. So it goes.
