In fact, our wonderful ex-governor, Governor Spendenning, had pushed a bill into the state congress to move all game management decisions from DNR to some politically appointed board. I think the bill died a slow death, I haven't been able to find any info on the state's web site about it. That would have been wonderful. Some anti-outdoorsy types deciding how our wildlife would have been managed, rather than letting experts determine what to do.

There is a law against harrassing legal hunters and fishers in Maryland. The problem is personnel. The DNR Police have the same authority as the State Police. They aren't just game wardens. There are game wardens in all of the parks, but the police are underfunded and understaffed.

Our ex-governor married an anti-outdoor sports person (meaning hunting and fishing) and redirected many of the resources to other areas. I think I heard the other day that there are only about a dozen patrol cars for DNR Police in the whole state.
