Scott -

Soft Hackles are an incredible pattern for panfish in my neck of the woods here in Texas.

I have been browsing the web lately for info on these very old and classic patterns.

I guess one of the most famous is the Partridge and Orange, which is simply a "body" of orange floss and 1-1/2 - 2 turns of Partridge for a collar.

Of course, you can change the body color to anything you desire. Also, hen works well for soft hackles. I have also used oversized, webby saddle hackle tied back that seems to provide the desired effect.

Hello ALL
I was wondering if any of you could enlighten me on the category of flies
called SOFT HACKLE. I am going to tie some of these and need to know
more.
Any names or good patterns you might be able to help me with would be
great.
Thanks

I got a 27 inch red fish yesterday in the Mosquito Lagoon area of the
Indian River.
