Not exactly sure who this will end up going to but, i tye LOTS of soft
hackles. I used to tye them at shows all the time, in lots of different
sizes and colors. I would use almost anything for bodies, peacock herl, all
kinds of dubbings, quills, floss, chinille, anything. And i would use hen
back, grouse, partridge, starling, quail, quinea, anything for the wing,
(hackle).
Ahhhhh yessss! A tyer after my own heart. I too have tied softies with most of the above, yet when fishing, we often just dub a quick body and add a couple of collar wraps if the hatch is on. I'm getting ready to try a new pattern using ice dub and awesome hair tied soft hackle style. I'm really in a quandry as to whether I want partridge or hen cape on this. Well I guess that makes sense! I'll tied them both ways and let the fish vote. How easy this list is to help a fellow tyer along. ;-) Oh, try using a rope dubbed wing/leg collar using some spiky dubbing instead of hackle next time.
Murf, not ready for salmon fly tying yet
