I assume that by intermediate wraps, you mean to place wraps
(with no guides) between the guides, so that the line will
come in contact more with the wraps, and less with the rod?
A curious concept.

Rene,

The position or number of guides won't affect the
stiffness of the
rod very much, if at all, unless you go to the extremes of
putting a whole
bunch of guides on the rod. What you are doing by
adjusting the distance
and number of guides on the rod is keeping the line
approximately the same
distance from the rod, so that you can cast the line
better. This happens
when you get the optimal position and number of guides by
keeping the line
from slapping the rod. You may be able to affect the
action of the rod by
putting intermediate wraps on the rod, this effectively
increases the
diameter of the rod section at the point of the wrap. You
might need to
experiment with number of intermediates and their spacing.
