Yeah, but the structural fibers are still lignin polymers. The major difference, apart from fiber shape and density, is that bamboo, like some woods, incorporates inorganic material in its structural cells. In bamboo's case, if I remember right, there are crystals of silica, making the fiber hard and giving it a reasonable modulus. That, and the specific fiber makeup in bamboo make it a fine material for 'spring-like' constructions, like rods and bows.
