I found just the opposite as far as hardness goes. I used them for streamers
and my froggies. Had a lot of breakage. Found them to be brittle. Still have
several hundred that are just collecting dust. I agree, they had to be
sharpened out of the box.
That was about 10 years ago, they might be better hooks now than they were
then.

Mine are old too, but my main experience is with the large 6/0 hooks (forget the number) that I use for pike flies... might be different.
