I tie on whatever I have at the time that suits the pattern,
as I get lots of sample hooks from show vendors.
But I do prefer certain hooks for certain styles of flies:
Saltwater: Eagle Claw and Owner, also Gamakatsu
Wets- Steamers- Mustad long shanks, Partridge
Nymphs- Curved Daiichi, Tiemco, and Mustad
Dries- Dai Riki, Tiemco, Mustad
Deer Hair spinning, bass bugs- Mustad Aberdeen, Stinger
Salmon Flies- Partridge
