I use the machine embroidery floss all the time..it is rather a thread and
comes in 100% polyester and rayon. The rayon is shinier, but my sister, the
fabric queen, reminds me that rayon looses strength when wet, though if that
is a problem with flies I've not yet discovered. You can get a large spool
of gold, silver and any color your heart desires in the machine embroidery
department of your favorite fabric store. The ones that cater to quilters
and have machines which do embroidery have the very best selection. As
previously stated, also do wooly nylon..have not used "true" flyfishing
floss for floss bodies for years. These others are so much easier to use and
less snaggy and look so good.
Also, as you already know, Kim Yong uses many of the standard Coats and
Clark's brand threads for his thread bodies. they work great and will mimic
a quill body nicely if you put on a touch of Sally's hard as nails polish.
And, a word to the frugal, right now in our area, and probably in all
areas, Wal-mart has their Sally's Hard as nails, usually 2.79 for each
bottle, on sale for 2 bottles for 5.00. No hype or advertising, just a
constant satisfied use. You may want to check it out. Joyce
