So it is normal tieing it in by the tip? I was told/taught that you should tie it in at the back, and then i was told tie it in by the front. Which way is the right way?

What you need to do, is make sure you have a hackle long enough so that the fibers/barbs will still be long enough by the time you get up to the head.
