Mark I am using Whiting Spey Hackle, this hackle was developed for spey
flys. I am sure that when the Guru AKA DonO decides to grace us with
his airspace. He will be more than happy to come up with 101 things I
am doing wrong list. I didn't have trouble with the saddles but the
hackles on the capes the fibers are longer than the quill itself. Which
cause some very colorful conversations between tyer and fly! Anyway
Mark with these hackles you can be an inch and half or more behind the
hook, a very beautiful and impressive flys. Those of you in the co-op
and getting these capes will love them. Yes they are capes and not fur!

Bob, what kind of hackle are you using? And are you folding your hackle,

BEFORE you tye it in, or as you wrap? I always tye it in by the tips,
and
fold both before and as. But i have somewhat recently found out, that
for a
traditional spey fly, the hackle is tyed in by the butt in order to get
the
longest fibers to flow back the furthest. What i'd like to find out is
more
about the ribbing, and counter ribbing. Some of those flies look like it

must of been a bitch to rib them. They'll have a rib of flat tinsel,
backed
up by twist, or oval tinsel, and then counter ribed with something
alltogether different. Man, that's a lot of having to get through all
those
fibers of hackle. Anyone here got experience with that? mark
