To begin, fl dyes for fly-tying are available from Veniard; and yes they
are fluorescent. I'm sure they're easily available in the US but, if
not, and for info on the available colours, visit
http://www.fishflies.ca in Ottawa.
I see the effects of this all the time in photographing flies. Fl
materials "blow-out" in otherwise properly exposed photos. I actually
have to take two photos and blend them to reduce this effect.
