Personally, I'd rather pay less for the quality rod with a reasonable warranty period than for a lifetime guarantee that can be abused by knuckleheads who abuse/neglect their equipment all because the company will replace it.
As clarification, I don't mean to paint anyone who utilizes the lifetime guarantee as a "knucklehead" trying to work the system. Not at all! Obviously there are many legitimate claims that would fall under this sweeping policy, and you would be a fool not to take advantage of the offering if it pertains to you.
I just don't like the idea of a person almost purposefully abusing equipment with the notion that 'if something bad happens, I'll be taken care of.'
