Ummm, tip #1...uh, yeah...I drove off with mine on top and it went flying...miraculously, nothing snapped and the reel still worked, but I felt my heart sink (it was my 4 weight that I built for my son).
I'd modify the tip - don't put it anywhere near the vehicle (although I know guys who have left them leaning on trees).
