Dan,
I just "re-discovered" Fly
Tying: Adventures in Fur, Feathers and Fun by John McKim. It has great
diagrams on performing a hand whip finish, really goes through a lot of basic
techniques, and is not a very expensive book. It is not designed to be a
pattern book like a lot of them but really goes through technique. It
also gives a lot of ideas for making your own fly tying tools. Great
book.
