I took a kneeling pad I bought at the hardware store, about 1 inch thick foam. I cut a triangle from one edge, and cut several 1/2 inch deep cuts across the point - about 1 inch apart. This allows for different lengths of dubbing or feathers. The foam allows you to flex the tool to aid in removal of the feather once you clamp it.
