Before I moved to Arkansas we had a group that met on the first Sunday of the month. At each meeting we tied the fly of the month and then shared little secrets about tying or fishing. After each session we attached flies to the tying tree, it was a piece of driftwood root with a bunch of "branches" on it. After I left, the group kind of fell apart and when I was back in Jersey last year the "Tree" was given to me.
I still have to find a place in my tying room to display it.

Tony and Joyce, that is so cool that you guys have these tying groups. I'm the "keeper" in the Catskill Fly Tyers Guild.....so the clubs fly collection is housed in my gallerey. I've also served as program director for two years, meaning i made sure we had a "program" for the meetings.....which usually takes up the first hour or so and is either a member tying/teaching a pattern or two to the others, or some special guest tyer or whatever it might be. I also was the archives person for a year or so. We trade off and take turns doing these different "duties." Seems i'm still doing all the hauling of our "stuff/junk" to and from the shows though, lol. I don't mind at all though, i love shows. I think we're in about our 14th year now. For me, maybe 10. This year will be our third annual Fly Tyers Rondezvous. A one day event with about 50 tyers. That's April 17th. I have to miss it this year because i'll be in Idaho Falls tying at the E.I.F.T./F.F. EXPO. I was in a Jazz club in Manhattan (missed the meeting) when the decision was made to change the date of the Rondezvous for this year...........DRAT. LOL. I'm working on combining our Ronderzvous and "The Gathering" in future and trying to get a week long event like the Sowbug going. It's a big idea, and i still need to convince quite a few of our members. If it ever happens i sure would be honored to have both of you make it. mark...........

Joyce,
We also have a tying group called GADFLIES "Grandest Association of Drinkers and Liars In the Entire State".
We meet on the first Tuesday of the month. We rotate at each members house each month. The host supplies the place, tying material, fly pattern and tying instructions. The host also supplies a soft drink for each tyer and some treats.
The past few years we have invited the wives to come along. They visit while we tie. When we meet at my house my wife will usually have a craft project for the wives to do. Our sessions are two hours but seem to linger to about three hours. No one complains. I have been with this group for nine years, we have lost a few and gained a few.
When we have visitors that are here the first Tuesday of the month, we invite them to sit in.
Tony

A guild is any group devoted to a specific area..such as, in this case,
flytying. We meet once a month, on the average, tie flies, teach each other
new patterns or tricks, watch a tying of fishing video and share our fishing
experiences..great for all of us. Joyce
