I've been using Rio Powerflex for about a gazillion years. Every now and then I'll pick up the "bargain" or the "latest and greatest" but have found the Powerflex to give me the best overall performance in all conditions. Stillwaters,  heavy cover, cluttered up rivers, rocky back waters and clear Lesotho freestone streams. The only freshwater species I do not use it on is Tiger fish. (go figure).

I've used 3X through 7X and honestly have not had a problematic breakoff in all that time. Aside from a spool or two that was "shop stale". It would seem to me that if it has been "on the shelf" for more than 9 months it tends to "go off". I'm really not expressing my self very well here.

My conclusion is that the material loses some of it's elasticity, that will primarily compromise knot strength and secondarily will fail sooner in an abrasive environment.

I use the blood, turl and tucked blood knots all depending on situation for my freshwater fishing.

Well there is my bit on this one

Subject: [VFB] tippets and knots?

What is your favorite tippet material?

What is your favorite knot to attatch flies with?

I need to change becasue either I got 3 bad spools of tippet material or the 2 knots I am using are terrible or I tie them bad.
