Another thing that I find, when tying small ties, is that it is very important to leave enough room for the head. As a general rule, that is the length of the eye of the hook. So, to remind myself of this important place on the hook, I start my underwrap one eye distance back from the eye of the hook so that I can then see plainly where I need to start my proportions for the rest of the fly..2/3 of the remaining distance for the body, 1/3 for the thorax with that "sacred" eye distance for the head. Hope this helps. Joyce
