Any thoughts on a worthy crawfish pattern? I'm a middle weight when it comes to tying, and many crawfish patters are just too complicated for me. I want to be able to tie flies, and still have some time to actually fish!

But last year I didn't get to go out until July or August. I used nothing but a bullet head grasshopper imitation. I fished the shadows only. I had a great time. I caught maybe 6 bluegill for every bass, but I was generally active all day long. And I caught bigger bluegill than the 4" plastic worms drag in.
I've only fished twice this spring/summer, and I didn't get as much action. Last weekend I caught about 4 smallies from 8-10" and a friend caught about 8 12" smallies with plastic worms in the same 4 hour stretch. But I caught more bluegill.

Hello Listers, I have been flyfishing for trout for about 10 years. I travel all over the state in pursuit of all species of trout indigenous to this locale -- my favorite being the small, native Brook Trout. They are very challenging to catch and loads of fun on a 2/3 wt. rod. However, my craving for something new has led me back to a couple of great smallmouth rivers right at my back door. I have had great success spinning for these fish, but little success with the long rod. Any hardcore Smallie fisherman on the List? I am looking for some "favorite patterns," rigging info or just some good advice for a beginner. I have been tying for about 8yrs., so please share some of your patterns if you feel like doing so.
