Ginger/Deb, very interesting. I've recently been working on filling an order
for Clousers, and also been working on tying some bass/pike flies using
bunny strip tails. I started out using Whiting Spey Hackle for long colars
on them, and then switched over to using marabou instead. Marabou is BIG FUN
to wrap as a colar, and makes a very lush, full colar. I'm now going to get
into doing some steelhead type Popcycle type flies, stacking (building)
different colors of marabou one in front of the other. Don't know why the
heck i hadn't tried this sooner. It's really not hard to wrap at all. I tye
it in by the tip btw. Anyway, i also think i'll give the Clousers some
marabou and see how that looks. And, i've already added some deer hair to
some of the bunny strip flies, along with the marabou, for the bass and pike
flies. They came out nice. They are the ones with the cone heads. On one of
them, i found out that the bunny strip had a rip in it, after i had tyed it
in. So, i just lengthened the rip and it came out looking just like a
crawfish tye, with a bunny strip tail "split" on both sides of the hook, but
fortunately with only a single pieces amount of hide to tye in. I'm using
crystal chenille, or Estaz so far for the bodies. But i'm thinking some SLF
dubbed might be nice......of course well picked out to represent legs, and
most likely ribbed with gold wire. You can also add burnt mono eyes, and/or
a section of G.P. Tippet for a tail out over the eye of the hook. That'll
hide your cone head. Just some ideas. mark.......

They use them here with wool heads and lead clouser eyes. I think they
look
like more of a sculpin than a clouser. I have one laying around here
somewhere. I think it was originally a bass pattern.

I am showcasing zonker flies this month in my class. I read one pattern
where they used a bunny strip top and bottom for
a sculpin pattern and adopted it to fit our local 'green back' baitfish
colors and tied a bunny clouser. It worked out great.
Just wondering if someone has done this before?
