Personally I use only furled leaders and loop to loop connections. Before I learned to make furled leaders however, I used the blood knot for my tippet connection. Using a tool to me would be a hindrance as in the fact that it is another gadget. plus, once you can tie the knot with your eyes closed, you can tie it in dim or no light, might be hard to do with a tool.                                                                         Del
