Guys,
[
I learned to fly fish a long time ago in New England on a 4 wt bamboo rd.
Classic tuck the book under your arm and cast from 10 o'clock to 2 o'clock.

When I picked up an 8wt and tried to cast 70 ft, I realized I needed help.
I tend to study things and so read several books and saw a LOT of VIDEOS.
When I got Mel Krieger's two tape series on casting it was an ABSOLUTE
AHA!! experience. I never cast without hearing "WHOMP!! WHOMP!!"
"down-up/down-up" and "flick the peach off the stick" ringing in my ears.
What I liked most about Mel's system is that it is not so dogmatic that you
have to totally transform yourself.

I was so impressed that on one of my west coast business trips, I contacted
Mel and asked if he would spend a few hours with me at the casting ponds in
Golden Gate Park. What a great guy. I paid for two hours of instruction.
I met him at HIS HOUSE, he took me to lunch and HE PAID. We got to the
casting ponds at 1 PM. At 7PM I had to leave for dinner. He was still going
strong and would have stayed till midnight. I could not get him to take any
additional money

From his tapes and LOTS of practice, I was getting about 60-70
feet out but not very pretty and only in the general direction of what ever
it was that I was casting at.

I left there casting 70-80 ft with pretty tight loops that were
consistently landing either in or very close to the target hoops in the
ponds.

BIG MEL KREIGER fan
