Pete, Thanks for the warm welcome.. This has got to be the friendliest,my
helpful, and funniest group on the net.. I LOVE it... I'll have to study up
more on those flies, cause all I know so far is.. Around here there are tons
of yellow jackets, red ants, and may flies, so I have just been using flies
that look like those insects to ME LOL.. And the bream killers with the
rubber legs, black bodied and jerk it across the water like a water bug, and
have had great success with Bluegill, Pumpkinseed, Shell Cracker, and some
rock bass, along with a few bass and crappie off these same patterns... I do
want to learn all I can though, cause knowing the water you fish and the
best bait for that water, etc will produce better results... Have you tried
these worm flies???? Looks like little redworms.. I wonder cause I raise my
own redworms and when all else fails, i can go with those and a Zebco 33
and catch my limit (50 bream per day), on most days this yr...New watershed
I am fishing for the first time, cause you have to have a boat to fish it,
and I finally got a 14" alluminum john boat from my son in law, and Got a
trolling motor, and now a new depth/fish finder for early fathers day,all I
need now is some good weather. We have had (here in NE AL) storms for two
weeks solid, and now that that tropical storm is moving through too, I can't
fish because of lightening... Rain i don't mind, but will not be on the
water in a metal boat LOL.. Anyway, I was wondering if they would hit those
worm flies like they do the real worms, cause I LOVE to fish long as I'm
catching SOMETHING LOL... I don't catch anything, in 30 minutes I'm gone
LOL.. Patience is not one of my virtues, but like I said, long as I'm even
catching "butterbean bream" I'll stay all day.... Thanks again, Chuck

Welcome Chuck! Sorry it's a day late a dollar short, but I figure
it's better late than never when it comes to fishing advice...

I fish for bream all of the time (well, that is whenever I get a
chance to go out fishing...) -- I use a 7' 4 weight currently, but
I'm building a 6'6" 2weight rod as soon as REC sends the blank.
Anyhow, the "killing-est" fly this last weekend (in SE PA (2 hours NNE
of philadelphia), about 1pm til 3:30pm on the 4th of June) was a
simple Sz. 16 Zug Bug pattern with the wing case made of a (chartruse-
yellow / woodduck / lemon) dyed malard flank clipped the traditional
short. Oddly, they didn't like pheasant tails with herl thoraxes,
copper johns with herl, or even prince nymphs... all in the same
sizes, just different patterns. Still trying to figure why, but for
now, who cares - my dad caught a pumpkinseed bigger than my palm, and
that's plenty proof enough for me! If you would like some of that
chartruse malard flank, I *think* I have some left and would be more
than happy to send some in an envelope to you. It may be a week
before I can get to the post office, but it'll get out as soon as I
can -- or I'll ask my wife to send it. She's home for the summer,
being a school librarian, the lucky dog...
Best of luck fishin' and tight wraps,
Pete
