Let me clarify for a minute.
The flies are (were) being tied with everyday materials, and no new techniques were tried. I haven't really tried to tie paras before and decided that it was high time. The hackles are good grade Whiting, so I doubt the hackles are to blame. The closest I had to success was with a feather fiber post. It stayed together at least. I only am taking 4/5 turns of hackle, so I know I am not trying to use to much.
I think that next week I will take a trip to the local shop and take my tying gear (some of it) with me and see if they can watch me and tell me what I am doing wrong. I think that may be the best thing to do.
I am sorry I ranted to you all, but it had to go somewhere. Besides, that's part of what family is for.
Decided not to quit, just take a loooooooooong break,
