I just ordered and received a few back issues of Fly Tyer and in the Spring

others. The article was the first time I’d heard of gel spun.

Anyone have any experience with this? Comments?

AKA dyneema or spider wire, it is a super strength (stretched) polyethylene fiber. Stronger than kevlar, but less abrasion-resistant, and with a lower temperature tolerance (lower melting point). Has been around as fishing line for 15 years or so, and as tying thread, oh, somewhere in the 5-10 years range. Great for bass bugs, and ultra fine flies (different thread sizes of course). Somewhat expensive, so not really suitable as an allround thread (at least not for me), and a little slippery.
