Henk, I will add a tiny bit if you don't mind.

I saw Rick mention furled leaders at the Sow Bug.. Are they worth the extra money???

Henk: Yes, but you should really roll your own. Much more fun. Check out Claude Freaner's pages, or my (rather old) article on www.globalflyfisher.com.

Murf: They cast and lay out quite well and I agree that you should roll your own.. but with the guidance of someone like Claude.  I remember Claude demonstrating this at the NEC VI clave on Pine Creek.  It involves 2 people and a drill and takes some patience.  You can buy them already made at Line's End for a very reasonable price http://www.linesend.com/product/leaders.shtml of $12.75 less your VFB discount.  I am more comfortable with a mono leader however.  Most likely because of my style (what style?).

I think we may have discussed this a few months ago, but my memory ain't what it used to Be. I think it was Del who was telling Me he tied his own, and I may only have to buy one or two per season, instead of a bunch of them. is this true???

Henk: My 6/0 UNIthread leaders usually last me an entire season...

Murf: What that means is about 3 seasons or more for me.  You typically build/buy a furled leader for a particular weight rod as they cast differently than mono.

And do you still use a tippet with a furled leader???

Henk: Sure, there's no way you can tie a size 28 directly to a furled leader...

Murf: So THAT'S why I couldn't get the durned fly attached!  ;-)
