Hey, Ed-
This is just my opinion, but if I were in Burlington VT, I'd take the ferry from Burlington to Port Kent and fish around Route 9 and 373 (I may be off for those two route numbers, as it's coming from my memory, and I think the area iscalled the 'Au Sable' though there are several rivers of the same name and this is the NY, not Mich). I do know that Route 9C follows the river Westward for quite some distance, and access is fairly simple from the road on in... but the North-eastern end is where I'd start you if you're looking for a catch; they're pickier but larger as you travel west, though... Rainbows mostly, and mostly stream-born. 3lb is average, 5 is pretty rare, and I've seen much larger than that but not caught them in there.
The shop to go to (again, in MY opinion) in Burlington is the Classic Outfitters, on Rt 2 just WNW of 89... forgive me for not knowing the street name, but it starts out with "will"... Staples and a shopping center right there. Mind you, this is from ten years ago or so, when I was at Worcester Poly. Inst.(WPI = 'whoopie') in Massachusetts, so things may have changed... look up Roger or Rhea or... well, i'll send all that off list if asked. Good people, good conversation, and GREAT coffee nearby :) Hope they're still around for others!
I hope that helps, as it is late and I'm feeling it.
Tight wraps,
