I use a 6X 6.5lb leader (9 ft), and a 4-5lb tippet now for most stuff. I
used to use 3lb.
For the 28s, I all some 2.2 or 3lb tippet onto that to give between 13 - 15
ft. I am not catching 10lb fish, but 1-4lb fish. It is surprising how much
force you can load it with if you take care, especially on the hook-up, when
the line will tend to fail(for me anyway) even on small fish. When they make
the first run, I let them play the drag and tire themselves out. If I have
no choice, and they are headed into trouble such as a log or branches, I
keep the rod as high as possible and to the size to try to lead them away.
Once the hook-up stage is done well, I don't tend to have major problems.

Somewhere I read (FF&FT Oct 06 ??) that if you take off all pressure, the
fish will stop running, as if it doesn't know it is hooked. This would be a
good application of the theory.

All my fish have recovered well so I don't have to play too long.

Reuven: That is amazing.. what tippet did you use 12X??? ...If you did hook
one you'd have to play it like crazy to land it right??? Having to use such
a light tippet???, Chuck
