The size I tie and use the most (and therefore have the best results with)
is 14, size 12 would be next. But I tie them and use sizes 10-18. 

The pattern I follow is the one in Dave Hughes' book "Essential Trout
Flies." But then, for some reason (senior moments) I forget to tie in the
gold ribbing on about half of them. Those seem to work just as well. (Which
is further proof of what's said in the quote, I suppose.) :-)

do you use to tie it. Reason I ask is so far I have found about 20, each
