Mark: The supply and demand thing is true of anything...And, like, at that
auction, if there had been two millionaire's bidding on the flies, andif Tom
Nixon had been their favorite tier, the flies may have brought $10,000...It all
depends on what a person thinks of that certain tier, and how deep their
pockets are LOL..One thing I meant was, say Tony's froggie.. First ones he ever
tied may have looked like crap compared to today's.. But the value of being the
first ones tied (sorta like a first edition book I guess)...Chuck

  Chuck,

Prices of such flies are determined entirely by demand. Doesn't mean the
dollar values mean much to me. I've got a few flies tied by Tony (mainly
from Tom Nixon fly swaps plus a froggie) none of the will see the water (none
of the Nixon swap flies have either. I also have a ,56%er tied by Tom
Nixon, and with Tom gone you can bet that one won't either. A couple years ago
a shadow box of Tom's flies constructed by another very good fly tier (who
died about 6 months after Tom) was auctioned off at a dinner for the Baton
Rouge conclave...fetched something like $750-800.

Tom's fly and all three editions of his book are staying in my collection
while I'm alive...after that who knows what they'll be worth then? By the
way, I have no plans of departing soon...

left to get better and better ROFL... Chuck

Seriously, your letter here did get me to thinking.. Outside of sentimental
value, say somebody had one of Dave Whitlock's first deer hair flies, not
knowing he'd have the fame in that area that he does today, what would a fly
like that be worth???

Picked up my flies today. Nice job everyone on peppers. They'll all see
water except Tony's that will join the size 20 Froggie he gave me many moons
ago in the swap flies I don't fish box.
Nice job with the swap, Chris.
