I agree it can be difficult, but the internet has made it much easier. A "good faith" effort is all that's needed; Google the name, and if nothing appears at least you tried. And all this only applies to non-generic names (such as Muskrat Nymph or Brown Caddis) for "commercial" use, including publicizing a pattern. Take for example, the Orange Blossom Special (a song). Google that and then "Search within Results" for "fly". The second entry is the history of the Orange Blossom Special salmon fly. You can put the whole string in the search box but I found that the 2-step method is often better because once you have the main string, you can use several secondary search "words" with greater ease. Anyhow, it's a nice morning and I'm not nearly so cranky! Just for fun I Googled one of my own patterns, the Blae and Black Maratube. Google gave me two hits. cheers Paul www.galesendpress.com
