Chuk,

What's a permit? Great fight, then even better eating.

Google up a photo- lots of them.

Where permit are large and rare, it's best to release them and then go for some
pompano if they are around. Smaller fish, good fight on light tackle, and
excellent eating.

As a sidelight, while I'm sitting here working and posting, I'm hearing a
'glush-glush' coming from my aquarium, and there's a crawfish in there
impersonating a jig. He's jerking up and down (with his tail contracting) all
the way from the bottom of the tank to the surface, over and over. I've never
seen them do this in the wild, probably because they get eaten after the 1st
jig, before they ever make it to the surface. Looks like a suicidal behavior
to me. :o) Next comes a lead-head jig in crawfish colors with claws extended.
Gotta figure out how to make the tail look like it's contracting, as it was
very pronouced in the 'live version'.

    Hi Everyone
Just got back from Belize. Had ten days of great fishing on the flats. On
my first cast of the trip I hooked a permit, the fight did not last long as I
broke him off. Caught lots of bonefish, some jacks and on the first day I went
for tarpon I hooked and landed a 40 pound tarpon on an 8 wt. rod. You may ask
why was I using an eight weight? I was practicing a couple of casts with my 10
wt to get my range established and the tip broke during a cast. From the looks
of the break I think there must have been a flaw in the rod as it was brand new
and had never been cast. From now on I will always try any new rod out in the
back yard before I take it on a long trip. I eventually landed a permit so I
ended up having a slam trip.
    Mel
