A rotary vise will save you a lot of material, I learned this when I was tying for the shops and resorts. I would buy my materials in bulk , wrap the yarn or chenille off the skeins into balls. I place the ball in a small basket on the floor and use the material right off the ball instead of cutting a length and having waste. Scott Bearden saw me do this when he was here last month. I found if I saved an inch on each fly, that would amount to a foot of material per dozen flies.Tying ten dozen of the same flies would save ten feet of material. That is more than you get in most packages. You can do the same with the yarn or chenille on the small cards in small packages. Just leave the material on the card, let the card hand down away from the vise and use the rotary part of your vise to wrap the material on the hook.
