I learned how to modify my Danvise, shortly after I got my first one. It enables me to tie flies up to 11 or 12 inches long. Here's what it looks like. And three flies. They range from 8 to 11 inches long. _http://www.flytyingforum.com/uploads/gallery45b81501e4082.jpg_ (http://www.flytyingforum.com/uploads/gallery45b81501e4082.jpg) _http://www.flytyingforum.com/uploads/gallery45b18c68e32fa.jpg_ (http://www.flytyingforum.com/uploads/gallery45b18c68e32fa.jpg) _http://www.flytyingforum.com/uploads/gallery46661f5ef37cc.jpg_ (http://www.flytyingforum.com/uploads/gallery46661f5ef37cc.jpg) (http://www.flytyingforum.com/uploads/gallery466c9a0f87e6b.jpg) You might be able to save yourself 20 bucks. Its a $20 part that still keeps the vise well under $100. I bought one of the prototypes and it makes a big difference for dealing with lots of material behind the hook. If you were only tying smaller trout flies I would say you didn't need it. That's a lot of vise for a small price tag.
