I learned how to modify my Danvise, shortly after I got my first one.   It 
enables me to tie flies up to 11 or 12 inches long.
 
Here's what it looks like. And three flies.  They range from 8 to 11  inches 
long.

I will second what Tony says. Its a $20 part  that still keeps the vise well 
under $100. I bought one of the prototypes  and it makes a big difference for 
dealing with lots of material behind the  hook. If you were only tying smaller 
trout flies I would say you didn't need  it. That's a lot of vise for a small 
price tag.
