If anything it is more supple and goes with cross currents even better. Overall I think the best advantage is better turn over of the fly and added shock resistance for lighter tippet. I fish with 7X and 8X all the time and I cannot recall the last time I broke a fish off. If you grease it up it will float just fine and if it starts to sink I just run it through my shirt pinched between my fingers to squeeze out any water and then re-grease it (fair warning, if you use silicone, you won't ever wash it out). If you are worried about drag then you are fishing with too short a leader IMHO. You want to leave enough room ahead of the fish to avoid spooking it when the fly lands, but not so far away that you start dragging before it reaches the fish. This is where pin point accuracy in casting is important and it does take a lot of practice. We all drag at some point, in fact with caddis I do it all the time intentionally, but with mayflies it is a mortal sin. For dry fly fishing I wouldn't use anything else but a furled leader. I keep two or three on me just in case something happens, but I have had the same ones for three years and they have not worn out nor have I lost them to a log or a tree. I only lose the tippet and fly, or if my knot isn't good at the fly then I lose just that which tells me I would have broken the fly off on a fish too. Flies and tippet though are cheap and easy to replace and I don't have to worry about rebuilding an entire leader. I clip some tippet off the spool, tie on a fly and I am back on the water. I have watched a friend of mine fumble for half an hour after losing half his regular leader. Time on the water is too precious.
