Its a nice idea, but you have a chicken-and-egg problem where you need the exclusive compelling content before you get the users.
Chances are that the usual suspects of Yahoo, Google, Amazon, Microsoft, AOL, Napster, and so on will be able to offer much more compelling content at a potentially lower price than an independent can. There are probably ways to survive and make a buck on this model, but I think this may be a business model that you can only implement once you either have a brand or a huge budget to build one.
