I dont think these things are myths, ust differences of opinion. The 98% or whatever figure Macromedia use about Flash installation is probably not that accurate and may be out of date. But there are some very valid reasons why some people dont like Quicktime, Im sure Rocketboom would get more complaints if it didnt offer other formats too.
The only way for people to avoid the format nightmares and suggest that there is one solution that will suit everyone right now, is by disregarding problems that other people have with the format youve chosen to use. Ive stopped ranting here a lot about the merits of using .mp4 instead of .mov, because some of the potential merits arent actually a reality yet. mp4 is my ideal because it can be used by quicktime lovers, but can also be created and viewed with other software that has nothing to do with quicktime. However, until there are alternative mp4 browser plugins available, people still have to use quicktime to see the video in a webpage, so to many people right now .mp4 seems like a quicktime/apple thing.
